It's barbecue season - but putting an undone calf into the fire is a method of preparation that called the police on Wednesday in Gaißach and created a fire hazard.

Gaißach

- There were bizarre scenes that took place late on Wednesday evening in Gaißach: A man grilled a complete calf there in a very unusual - and in this form not allowed - way.

The police are concerned with the case for several reasons, not least because the grill created a considerable risk of fire.

Gaissach: Witness sees a man grilling a whole calf

According to the police, residents noticed around 10:30 p.m. that a man in a wooded area not far from the village road was grilling an undone calf directly in an open fire, directly under a conifer.

They called the police.

A witness approached the "barbecue area" and spoke to the man.

Even before the police arrived on site, the man packed his grilled food in a stroller and left the forest in the direction of Bad Tölz.

The officers soon found him in the area of the mountain rescue center.

In fact, they saw that he was carrying several large pieces of grilled meat with him in the stroller.

There was also a peeled calf skin in it.

As the police explained when asked, the man is a 43-year-old of African origin who lives in Bad Tölz.

43-year-old explains that he had received the calf from friends

In the meantime, the witness himself had extinguished the approximately two square meter fireplace so that the fire brigade no longer had to move out.

The police are now investigating several possible offenses.

For one thing, it is unclear where the man got the calf from.

The 43-year-old told the officials that he got the animal from an acquaintance.

Prohibited barbecue action in Gaißach: where did the calf come from?

However, animals may only be sold from farmer to farmer or to butchers or breeders at the cattle market.

Normally, a calf has to be reported to the breeding file after birth and the ear has to be chipped.

The origin would be traceable on the basis of the chip.

In this case, however, the head of the animal was missing.

The police will receive information on clarifying the origin of the calf on 08041/761060.

But the police are investigating other aspects as well.

It should be checked whether the rules for slaughtering and the animal welfare to be observed have been violated.

In addition, for reasons of food hygiene, a proper meat inspection is mandatory before consumption.

The barbecue action in the forest also created a great risk of fire in the current drought.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our new, regular Bad Tölz newsletter.
