A member of the executive office in the Damascus countryside governorate concerned with the fuel sector, engineer Raydan Al-Sheikh, expected the start of granting a petrol card to owners of previously unregistered bikes within a month if they adhere to the procedures required to register their bikes.
Al-Sheikh explained to SANA’s delegate that quantities of gasoline will be distributed to bike owners from the governorate’s allocations, pointing out that the committee formed to register requests for owners of motorbikes that are not registered in the transport directorates will submit weekly lists of names to the Damascus countryside fuel branch.
Last May, the Damascus Countryside Governorate issued a decision to form a committee whose mission is to secure gasoline for bicycles, machinery and agricultural equipment not previously registered, according to specific conditions.
The committees began receiving requests from citizens who own motorbikes that are not registered in the transport directorates and opening temporary records that include detailed information about bike holders and their specifications “origin, model, chassis number, engine number and color,” according to the Director of Transportation in Damascus Countryside, Engineer Mahmoud Zaitoun.
Zaytoun indicated in a similar statement that after registering the data, a black bike is made that includes this data, then a form is issued by the governorate, after which the bike owner goes to the integration centers in order to grant him a gasoline card.
Zaitoun called on the bike owners to start extracting the required papers and proofs in order to obtain the card as soon as possible, noting that the committees will provide the Syrian Company for the Storage and Distribution of Petroleum Products with fuels with a weekly statistics for the bikes that are registered. Fees are charged, if any.
