Last year, the police discovered the sound of an explosion from the Wangi Reservoir in Saigon. When ambushing nearby, four men passed by. One of them said, “It’s a good explosion.” The police stopped four people and found one of the trucks. A metal pipe containing explosives was found on the driver.

The driver pleaded guilty to possessing explosives in the District Court today (17th). The case mentioned that the metal pipe will produce a fragmentation effect when the metal tube is ignited, which can spread out to 10 meters, causing serious injury or possibly fatal.

The judge first obtains a background report for the defendant, and the case will be sentenced on July 2.

The defendant, Lu Guohua (23 years old, truck driver), admitted to possessing a metal pipe containing 45 grams of explosives in Saigon’s Wangi Reservoir on June 11 last year.

The defendant’s pockets contained powder metal cylinders

According to the case, police officers observed the breakwater at the Wangi Reservoir in the early morning of the incident and saw flashlights and 4 people.

About 20 minutes later, the police saw the sound of an explosion and smoke coming from the place where the four people were, and they were lying in ambush nearby.

When the four people passed the ambush, one of them said, "It's so explosive." Then they were stopped by the police, including the defendant.

Police found a metal cylinder, torch, lighter and gloves containing powder in the defendant's pocket.

The powder is really explosive

After testing, the powder in the metal cylinder was confirmed to be an explosive. Once the cylinder is ignited, thermal effects and object fragmentation effects will occur.

Thermal effects can cause injuries and property damage within the radius; the fragmentation effect of objects can spread out to 10 meters, causing serious injuries or possibly fatalities.

Although the cylinder does not have an igniter, any ignited material can trigger the explosion of the explosive in the cylinder.

There is no evidence that the defendant detonated the explosive

The defense pleaded that the defendant pleaded guilty to show that he was remorseful, and that there was no one in the wild at the time, and there was no evidence to show whether he was a person who detonated the explosives and whether the defendant intended to use the explosives for illegal purposes.

Regarding the case of smoke bombs, thermite, and gasoline bombs provided by the defense for the court's reference, the judge Xie Shenzhihui questioned the inability of the relevant items to be compared with the explosives in this case, and the court did not have professional knowledge to make judgments.
