In view of the waning corona pandemic, Germans are in the holiday mood.

For the summer vacation that means full beaches and hot head-to-head races for the loungers by the pool.

Hanover - Tourism is one of the industries that has been hit hardest by Corona.

But now business is picking up again, as several indicators show.

The tour operator FTI reports a strong increase in the number of bookings.

The airlines are also ramping up their business again.

In view of the high demand, Lufthansa is even using the long-haul A350 for the short trip to Mallorca.

Now there is good news from Tui, the largest tourism company in Europe.

The travel company reports strong bookings for the summer.

"The race to catch up for the summer vacation is in full swing, and the consumer mood for travel seems to be increasing every day," says Tui Germany boss Marek Andryszak.

There are strong booking weeks, which since May have even topped the level of the comparison weeks of 2019.

The most popular holiday destinations would even be up by a double-digit percentage.

Tui catching up: flight and bed capacities are being expanded

Tui is therefore expanding its flight and bed capacities in all popular travel destinations, with 75 percent of the 2019 program being offered in the summer. The entire Tui-Fly fleet with 22 machines will be used again. The company also expects catch-up effects in autumn.

But not only is demand growing.

The vacationers are also apparently ready to spend more money on the hoped-for best weeks of the year, for example on more attractive hotels and higher categories.

Andryszak reports that the guests spent around 25 percent more on their vacation than in the pre-crisis year 2019.

There is also a tendency for longer trips to be booked.

Instead of eight to ten days, Germans currently go on vacation for an average of ten to 14 days.

According to the information, package tours are experiencing a renaissance and currently account for around 70 percent of the overall market.

Tui catching up: it could be tight in summer

The Balearic Islands with Mallorca and Ibiza as well as Greece with the islands of Crete, Rhodes and Kos are particularly popular.

The Turkish Riveria with Antalya worked its way up to third place.

The Canaries with Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Tenerife are also far ahead in the favor of Tui vacationers.

Tui also noted good bookings for destinations where holidaymakers travel by car.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is surprisingly in 9th place.

According to Tui, if you want to spontaneously book your summer vacation, there are still enough offers in all popular holiday destinations.

During the summer holidays, however, things can get tight on the “tourist racetracks”.

Here, the family hotels in the first beach location are the first to be fully booked.
