The National Security Department of the police yesterday (7th) arrested 5 directors and senior officials of Next Media on suspicion of violating Article 29 of the National Security Law "conspiracy to collude with foreign countries or foreign forces to endanger national security."
The Security Bureau also frozen the "Apple Daily" and other three companies with a total of 18 million yuan in assets. After the arrest and evidence search by the police yesterday, the "Apple Daily" continued its editing work, and it was published today as usual.
At about 12 o'clock in the morning, the newspaper staff continued the typesetting and proofreading work and handed them over to the paper mill for printing. They said that they would print more than 500,000 copies today.
The front page of the newspaper mentioned the arrest of the Apple Daily’s senior executives on Thursday. There are 8 pages of paper covering the incident and related news.
In the early hours of this morning, some citizens lined up in front of the newsstand in Mong Kok, and many people bought more than one copy.
