Yang Junshen (Tommy) and Kang Weiping (James), both second-year students in the college, participated in recreational management, event planning and paper processing internships during the past summer vacation.

Both of them said that through participating in the internship, they not only learned workplace coping and work skills, but also broadened their horizons and greatly helped their personal career planning.

In the internship process, the knowledge learned in the course can be used one by one, and the lecturers of the college will also provide assistance from the side, so that they can experience and learn more confidently.

Tommy volunteered to become a physical education teacher, so he chose to take the "Sports Coaching and Sports Performance" Higher Diploma course.

I thought that the curriculum would focus more on sports science and mainly learn how to train others with sports, but the original curriculum covers a wide range. "What you need to learn includes sports management, social sciences, etc., and you need to know the difference between being a teacher and being a coach. In fact, sports are not just fun activities, but can also be used as an intervention method to solve different problems." The course made Tommy understand that the job of a sports teacher is not only to teach sports, but also to shoulder more responsibilities.

Later, Tommy worked as an intern in the private club of Kai Shing Property Management Co., Ltd., responsible for administration and customer service.

He pointed out that the knowledge of sports management learned in school is very helpful for the internship. In the process of working, he also allows himself to grow by observing the way his boss and colleagues deal with things. "I learned the skills of coaching others from my boss. I will also follow my colleagues to check and maintain various sports facilities, such as whether the badminton net and frame will be damaged after use, whether the basketball net can work normally, etc. At that moment, I knew that there were so many behind before using a sports facility. Steps require so much manpower and material resources to inspect.” Tommy said that ensuring that the facilities and equipment are safe and that they meet the standards of international sports events are also one of the responsibilities of physical education teachers. Through internship experience, they can lay a solid foundation and learn more about logistics. Train various skills to become a physical education teacher in many ways.

Yang Junshen (Tommy) pointed out that through the customer service experience accumulated during the internship, the handling and communication skills can also be strengthened.

Use the lessons learned in many aspects to improve skills and equip yourself

James was responsible for tasks such as paper processing, customer service, etc. Sometimes he also had to prepare equipment and venues for lifesaving courses, which tested his time management and work efficiency. Fortunately, with the aid of curriculum knowledge, I can do it more handily. "The Excel application and data import that I have learned can be used in real life, and the preparation and arrangement of courses are all part of the event planning." Because of this work. James frankly said that he has a deeper understanding of the industry, "Knowing how the organization operates or how to deal with emergencies, such as complaints from customers, how to deal with them according to the guidelines, and how to write reports afterwards, all of which can train resilience. At the same time, right The responsibilities and activities of the Life Saving Society have been deepened.” James, who was not good at handling multiple duties at the same time, has trained better time management skills through internships, knows how to arrange affairs, and has become more careful. I learned many practical skills during the internship, and my direct supervisors and experienced colleagues taught me patiently."

James has also obtained relevant bachelor degrees from the University of Hong Kong, Chinese University, City University, and the BSc (Bachelor of Science in Sports Management (Hons) program jointly organized by the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, UK) and HKU SPACE. Hons) Sport Management's conditional admission, he said that the course can help him lay a good foundation, no matter the professional knowledge or academic English training, he is ready for the future road of study.
