The head of the Security Union of Turkey, Faruk Sezer, revealed that 15 Turkish policemen committed suicide in just 25 days due to harsh working conditions.
The Turkish newspaper Zaman quoted Sezer as saying that "data of suicides of police officers were largely hidden during the past periods," noting that "the suicide rate among police personnel increased in the last period, as 15 policemen committed suicide within 25 days."
Cesar stressed that the harsh, intense and irregular working conditions in the police are one of the factors of suicide, pointing out that the main reason for the increase in the number of suicides stems from poor management.
After the emergence of 4 suicides of police officers during the past six days, the issue of the increasing number of suicides among the police has become a focus of controversy in Turkey.
The Turkish regime has placed many burdens on the police in Turkey since the start of the security campaigns against opponents and those accused of belonging to the Fethullah Gulen movement, especially after the 2016 coup attempt.
