274 male and female students from the seventh and eighth grades of basic education from different governorates competed today in science tests (physics, chemistry and biology) within the second phase of the Scientific Olympiad for Youth in Mathematics and Science for the year 2021, which is held by the Excellence and Creativity Authority.

The tests were conducted at the same time in the governorates of Damascus and its countryside, As-Suwayda, Aleppo, Lattakia, Tartous and Homs, and included questions and issues that measure the skills of logical analysis and mathematical thinking, and they are inspired by the scientific structure of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad.

SANA accompanied the tests, as the director of the Scientific Olympiad for Adolescents in Mathematics and Science project, Lin Qassem, pointed out that the approach to young ages is part of the authority’s strategic plan, as studies and experiments have proven that discovering students’ skills at an early age is an ideal way to nurture them and reach excellence.

A teacher of information technology and an expert in the Syrian educational platform, Ammar Arksousi, confirmed his keenness, as a teacher and father, to encourage and motivate students to participate in various Olympiad competitions, as they allow linking theoretical knowledge with practical skills and open up great horizons for students.

Jumana Mustafa, the mother of one of the students participating in the exams, said that she encouraged her daughter to participate in the Olympics as an opportunity to polish her personality and give her new skills and knowledge.

In turn, the student Muhammad Wannous stated that the level of the questions is very advanced and requires a great ability to think and analyze, while the student Adib Saqr praised the training he received before the exams and the benefit he gained at this stage, during which he reviewed many references and reliable scientific sources.

The students, Aya Arksousi, Zain Al-Habash and Sarah Khasawneh, pointed out that the Olympiad is a scientific competition that gives the student self-confidence and determination to achieve advanced positions in the world.

It is scheduled to take the participants' exams in the field of mathematics on the twenty-fourth of this month.

The 50 students participating in the tests with the highest scores will qualify for the third and final stage exams scheduled for next August, where they will compete for medals and certificates of appreciation and qualify the top ten to directly participate in the final qualifiers for the Syrian Scientific Olympiad for tenth grade students without passing the qualification tests.

The Excellence and Creativity Authority launched this Olympiad on the fourteenth of last March with the aim of refining young minds, developing the skills of young people in mathematics and science, and teaching them the skill of managing priorities, organizing time, and intellectual and scientific skills by solving problems in an innovative and creative manner, in order to supply the national teams of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad with the distinguished cases of them.
