Prosecutors in France have requested a one-year prison sentence of six months, including one against former French President Nicolas Sarkozy, who is on trial for overspending during his 2012 presidential campaign.
According to Agence France-Presse, prosecutors stressed the former head of state's total negligence in managing the finances of a campaign that cost nearly double the maximum allowable and demanded a fine of 3,750 euros.
Sarkozy, who has been absent from the session, is under trial since May 20.
The prosecution also requested prison sentences ranging from 18 months to 4 years, suspended, against the 13 convicts who are on trial with Sarkozy for overspending in his campaign for the presidential elections in which he was defeated.
Prosecutors demanded a three-year suspended prison sentence, Jerome Lavrillo, the campaign's deputy director, and a fine of 50,000 euros.
They also demanded an eighteen-month suspended prison sentence for three former Pygmalion officials responsible for Sarkozy's meetings after they admitted they had accepted the creation of a false billing system.
At the beginning of March, Sarkozy became the first former president since 1958 to be sentenced to prison in force. He was sentenced to three years in prison, two of which were suspended, on charges of corruption and abuse of influence.
