The epidemic hit Hong Kong for nearly a year and a half, and the local economy has been hit hard. The unemployment rate once rose to a record high. Even though the unemployment situation has gradually eased in recent months, it is still much more serious than before the epidemic.

The CSSA Low-Income Coalition released a survey report today (18) and found that under the epidemic, nearly 85% of the respondents had lost their jobs or were underemployed, and the income of an adult fell by 3,000 to 7,000 yuan, which made the life of the grassroots worse.

However, as the burden of the family increases, the problems and conflicts faced by the family also increase correspondingly, which affects the family atmosphere.

From May 24th to June 7th, the Low-Income Concern for CSSA conducted a survey of 205 respondents on the impact of unemployment or underemployment on family relations through online or telephone interviews.

The results showed that 84.8% of the interviewees had faced unemployment or underemployment. Among them, 87 had been out of work for one month or more, and another 40 had been underemployed for one year or more.

During the epidemic, the monthly income fell by up to 40% when under-started

Among the underemployed respondents, 26 said that their average income would be reduced by 1,000 to 3,000 yuan, and for 22 people, 3,000 to 7,000 yuan would be reduced.

Calculated by the alliance based on the largest proportion of monthly household income, the average monthly income has dropped by 16% to 40% compared to before the epidemic. This reflects that citizens have a difficult life and it is more difficult to find new jobs when faced with unemployment or underemployment.

In addition, the time for respondents to communicate with their families during the epidemic has increased, but the proportion of respondents who said they can get along well and accommodate each other with their families dropped from nearly 40% before the epidemic to less than 25%.

According to the Comprehensive Index, the results show that when the economic environment is poor, the cost of living increases, and the problems and conflicts faced by families increase correspondingly, which affects the family atmosphere.
