Will that change over the summer vacation?

The 7-day incidence in Germany has fallen steadily in recent weeks and is now at a value of 12 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants (as of June 17).

This has prompted many federal states to relax their corona regulations and to allow restaurants and hotels to reopen.

At the same time, traveling abroad is easy again thanks to the relaxed rules in many European countries *.

But what about the rules for people returning to Germany?

At the health ministers' conference on Wednesday (June 16) the applicable rules were discussed - that is the result.

Corona rules for travelers returning - no easing in sight for the time being

The health ministers of the federal states have agreed to adhere to the currently applicable measures for travelers returning over the summer holidays.

The background to this is the virus mutations that are rampant in some countries such as Great Britain, Brazil and India.

It should be prevented that the variants are introduced into the Federal Republic

.

The RKI is already aware of 552 cases of the Delta variant (as of June 16) in Germany.

That makes up 6.2 percent of the infection rate.

These rules currently apply to those returning to travel

For vacationers, the decision of the health ministers means that a trip without any rules is not possible.

Air travelers

are still obliged to submit a

negative corona test, proof of vaccination or proof of recovery

, regardless of whether they are coming from a risk area or not. The quarantine regulations also remain in place: travelers returning from risk areas must go into self-isolation, which can only be shortened by submitting a negative test. Anyone who comes from a high incidence area can “test themselves” after five days at the earliest. Travelers from virus variant areas still do not have this option

An exception also applies here for returnees from variant areas: Here you always need a negative test result and a 14-day quarantine without shortening.

The ministers want to continue to adhere to this regulation.

In addition, all travelers from high-risk, high-incidence and virus variant areas must complete the digital entry registration.

The mobile network operators should also continue to be obliged to send their customers a short message from the federal government about the test and quarantine obligations when they enter Germany, provided that they have stayed abroad for 24 hours.
