to observers of our democratic life.
Since General de Gaulle, the outgoing presidents of the Fifth Republic have failed to be re-elected, unless they have gone into the opposition thanks to cohabitation with a prime minister of another political color.
Valéry Giscard d'Estaing, Nicolas Sarkozy and of course François Hollande, who was not even in a position to represent himself, had the bitter experience of it.
The situation looks different
for the regional elections which begin this Sunday.
If we are to believe the polls, the outgoing executives have a real chance of being re-elected, and this is particularly clear for the presidents of right-wing regions who have not weakened themselves by arrangements with The Republic in market.
