“Moments of happiness take their place”: This is the motto of a hands-on campaign to which the city administration invites all citizens.

You are called to paint and decorate chairs, to decorate them with sayings and stories and so on.

The result is to be presented in an exhibition in the city area in mid-July.

Starnberg

- "The aim of the campaign is that after the long lockdown and the associated withdrawal we want to strengthen a feeling of unity in the city again," explains Mayor Patrick Janik in a press release. And why chairs? “A chair invites you to linger, gives us peace and quiet and gives us a place. Several chairs together symbolize community, conviviality and communication, ”explains Petra Brüderl from the city's cultural office. "The action is intended to strengthen the sense of community in the city and also give courage to those who may have felt little connected through the lockdown."

The idea for the campaign arose during the online workshop "re-STA-rt" and was further developed in the regular meetings on Tuesdays with the trade officers of the city council, inner-city players and employees of the city administration. Then it was up to the city's cultural office to work out the concept and implement the action. The central question of the participation campaign is: "What are the citizens looking forward to most this summer?"

If you want to take part, design a chair and send a photo of your painted chair together with a brief description of the underlying story to the email address kulturbuero@starnberg.de by Wednesday, June 30th. On this basis, the cultural office can design the exhibition without contact and arrange individual appointments with those involved to hand over the designed chairs. The chairs have to be stable enough to really sit on. The surfaces should be designed in such a way that there are no injuries, for example from brittle, fibrous wood. The colors used should be weatherproof, waterproof colors are best. The town hall recommends different colored lacquers or spray paints, but the use of fabrics or tape art is also possible. It is important that nothing rubs off.

There are no limits to the design for the Starnbergers.

The chairs can be painted figuratively to tell a story, or just show a play of colors that symbolically represents the story.

The art object “chair” is finally completed by a short accompanying text in which the viewer receives details about the “moment of happiness”.

If you are looking for inspiration: In the current exhibition by Renate Hofer in the palace garden (we reported) you can already find painted chairs.
