Ambassador Dr. Hassan Khaddour, Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations Office and Other International Organizations in Vienna, presented his credentials to Ghada Wali, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and Director General of the United Nations Office at Vienna.

Ambassador Khaddour discussed with Wali, during the meeting, which took place yesterday, the reactivation and development of cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in the areas of combating drugs and their cross-border smuggling, combating terrorism and organized crime, in addition to issues of combating human trafficking, preventing antiquities theft and looting historical, cultural and religious monuments.

He pointed out that the circumstances Syria has gone through should contribute to effective cooperation between the United Nations and the Syrian government and work together to ensure facing the challenges and obstacles that hinder the Syrian government's efforts in various issues.

Khaddour stressed that before the crisis, Syria had played a leading role in these areas, but this role was negatively affected during the past years as a result of the systematic attacks launched by armed terrorist organizations, behind which are countries that have an anti-Syrian political agenda.

He pointed out that the effects of imposing unilateral coercive measures on Syria and its people have greatly impeded the ability of the Syrian government to shoulder its burdens and negatively affected the lives of the Syrian people.

For her part, Wali affirmed that she is aware of the importance of providing support to Syria in light of the difficult circumstances it is facing, and that she is interested in activating cooperation in various issues that fall within the jurisdiction of her office.

Ambassador Khaddour also presented his credentials to Simonetta Di Pippo, Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs.

The ambassador discussed with Di Bebeau ways to renew and activate cooperation between Syria and the office, especially in the context of providing support to the Remote Sensing Authority in the areas of interest to it in this regard, in particular in building national capacities through participation in training courses and workshops conducted by the Committee on the Use of Outer Space for Peaceful Purposes. .

For her part, De Bebeau affirmed the office's readiness to resume cooperation with the Syrian government, including planning to hold workshops, training workshops, and joint specialized events for scientists and specialists in outer space affairs in Syria, noting the growing role that her office will play in the coming years in granting equal access to all member states. To benefit from the aspects of the peaceful use of outer space, especially in the context of the development agenda.
