China today again called on Western countries to stop interfering in its internal affairs and undermining the rule of law in Hong Kong.
Xinhua News Agency reported that the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry Commissioner's Office in the Hong Kong Administrative Region indicated that a number of foreign forces took advantage of the police's arrest of a number of executives of one of the sites, indicating that these forces are trying to distort the truth in an attempt to disrupt the rule of law in Hong Kong under the pretext of freedom. The press stressed the need for external forces to respect the rule of law and stop sabotaging Hong Kong's prosperity and stability.
He added that "the Hong Kong special government and the police made it clear that the detainees are suspected of conspiring to endanger national security by collusion with foreign forces by publishing dozens of articles on the Apple Daily website and circulating them through media platforms," explaining that "China's National Security Law targets a small group of inciters riots and who pose a serious threat to national security and protect the legal rights and freedoms of the vast majority of Hong Kong residents, including freedom of the press.”
A number of Western politicians and foreign media organizations had attempted to distort the Hong Kong police's law enforcement actions against five executives of "Apple Daily" and related companies.
