The wait was long this Friday afternoon.

After five hours of deliberation, the Assize Court of Créteil (Val-de-Marne) sentenced a woman of just 30 years old to 14 years in prison for intentional homicide.

Her ex-boyfriend, who appeared free, was sentenced to three years in prison for willful violence with a weapon.

He was imprisoned after the hearing.

For five days, the court looked into a banal altercation between motorists during the night of April 30 to May 1, 2017, which ended in drama.

Sofiane, a carefree young man, a distinguished sportsman, will not recover.

"When she hit him, she made a choice"

This Friday morning, before requesting 12 years in prison, the general counsel insisted that “when she hit him, she made a choice.

This corresponds to intentional homicide ”.

A choice made without abolition of his discernment, as specified by the court, the mental state of the accused being at the heart of the debates.

"The three experts have three different analyzes," recalled the representative of the State.

The case starts at 2:30 am.

Ilyes, the driver, comes home from the evening with his brother, Sofiane, his sister and three friends when an Audi A1 cuts them off on Boulevard de Stalingrad, in Vitry-sur-Seine.

At the next traffic light, Ilyes honks his horn and asks the other motorist to be careful.

Immediately, the tone rises.

At allée Pierre-Lamouroux, the drivers exit.

The first blows come quickly, after insults.

Sofiane intervenes and neutralizes the other driver.

Frightened, the latter opens his trunk and arms himself with a jack.

He then strikes a violent blow on Ilyes' skull.

Sofiane intervenes and recovers the jack then the intervention of a bus driver returning to the depot calms the spirits of almost everyone.

"There is no lack of control"

The Audi passenger then takes the driver's seat.

All this after a festive evening, "even if we will never know what the accused have consumed, certainly alcohol and cannabis", details the general counsel, before adding: "She is in control from her vehicle, she makes a U-turn, without swerving and then sets off at high speed ”.

At 50 km / h, she mows Sofiane which is thrown three meters.

"There is no lack of control", insists the representative of the State.

Panicked, the boyfriend takes the wheel of the German city car and the couple disappears.

They will be arrested ten days later when they get off the plane, back from Tunisia.

Evacuated in critical condition, Sofiane died a few hours later.

When the verdict was pronounced, Ilyes, Sofiane's brother, remained dignified. But in shock, unable to move on his own, he was helped by relatives to leave the room. Once outside, he collapsed, in tears. The emotional charge was too strong.
