For the third consecutive Friday, Damascus Governorate, in cooperation with the local community, NGOs and neighborhood committees, implemented a voluntary service day in various neighborhoods of the city.

The volunteer day included rehabilitation and maintenance of sidewalks, roads, lighting devices, removal of irregular occupants on public property, removal of dirt, planting trees and plants, cleaning and weeding gardens and public squares, rinsing the streets, cleaning campaigns and removing wall advertising posters.

From the Rukn al-Din area in Damascus, the two citizens, Muhammad Diaa Mardini and Zulfiqar al-Dada, from the neighborhood, said in a statement to SANA that they participate in the work of cleaning streets and gardens and planting trees to promote the idea of ​​volunteer work and cooperation with government agencies in everything that serves their region, city and country.

Within the framework of this day, and to complete the road rehabilitation work, the Traffic and Transport Engineering Directorate’s workshops planned the road leading from the Umayyad Square to the Customs Roundabout and identified it with road nails and put speed limit stickers after it was plastered, according to what Eng. national, especially when it comes to maintaining public utilities.

The worker, Hassan Makki, called for cooperation and participation in voluntary work on a permanent basis, especially during holidays, to raise the value of work and reach the optimal goal as soon as possible.

For his part, the director of parks in the governorate, Eng. Somar Farfour, indicated that his participation in the volunteer day is aimed at consolidating the importance of this work in order to preserve the beauty of the city and the environment by increasing green spaces, planting trees, cleaning streets and other service work, noting the remarkable response by citizens to participate.

The General Supervisor of the Services Complex in the governorate, Engineer Imad Al-Ali, said in a statement to SANA that the results of the volunteer work, which were started several weeks ago in a row, began to appear gradually, and this formed an incentive for all participants to continue until reaching the best desired result, explaining that the focus was on the axes that cannot be Work out during weekdays due to crowding.
