The Frautag in Jetzendorf, which was born on August 15, 1713 and was initially a purely religious festival, has developed over the decades and centuries into the largest one-day fair in Bavaria for years. Around 20,000 guests always come to Jetzendorf on the Assumption Day. 200 dealers and merchants, who come from all over Germany, offer their goods. Frautag is full of activity in the beer castles and a large vine arbor as well as a mega street disco with dancing and bars until 3 a.m. The Frautag has become the folk festival of the Jetzendorfer.

But the many regular Frautag guests from near and far have to do without all of that this year as well.

In the discussion with the local council, Mayor Manfred Betzin (independent) stated that it is not easy for him to have to cancel this major event this year because of Corona.

However, he does not see any other option.

Betzin justified the rejection with the necessary hygiene concept, which the community of Jetzendorf could not pull out of its hat until Frautag (Sunday, August 15).

The rescue services such as the fire brigade, BRK and police that are on duty on Frautag would want to have clarity about the influx of such a major event by the end of June.

"But I can't write a hygiene concept without a safety assessment," Betzin made clear.

Having only the month of July available to prepare for such a big festival is simply too scarce, according to the mayor. By pointing out that possible gaps in the hygiene concept would be interpreted as misconduct, as was once the case with the Duisburg Love Parade, which ended in a catastrophe, Betzin made it clear what great responsibility lies with the organizer (municipality) when it comes to hosting major events. "I don't want to stick my head without an implementation concept, which unfortunately cannot be drawn up at the moment," said the mayor.

However, there were voices from the local council that it was still too early to decide whether to cancel Women's Day at this point in time. The corona incidence numbers finally fell drastically. The municipal councilors Josef Sedlmeier (non-party) and Stefan Gottschalk (Lampertshausen voter group) were convinced by the municipal chief that there is no alternative to cancellation because of the constraints with the rescue organizations. Birgit Brajdic (Greens) supported the mayor. She referred to the Munich Oktoberfest, where it has long been clear that this year will not be celebrated again.

The unanimously decided cancellation of the Frautag market does not mean that there must be dead silence in Jetzendorf on Frautag, as the further discussion showed.

At least the local restaurants can, as the state's hygiene concept allows, receive guests in their beer gardens and, to a limited extent, even inside.

Mayor Betzin also wants to clarify to what extent at least the TSV Jetzendorf flea market could be held again.

SPD councilor Manfred Breitsameter said that he could hardly imagine “half a woman's day” just because of the unmarked parking areas.

Simon Fottner (party independent) also stated that a certain consequence must be expected from the cancellation that has now been decided.

Everyone at the meeting table agreed that big politics, not only during the corona pandemic, are increasingly overloading local politicians with requirements and making their work more difficult.

Betzin: "The only thing missing is that we have to carry out a visitor count on Frautag next year."
