The North Korean ruler Kim Jong-un announced on Thursday that he was preparing his country for a dialogue, but also a confrontation with the USA.

Pyongyang - North Korea's ruler Kim Jong-un has expressed conflicting views on his country's relationship with the United States.

The 37-year-old declared on Thursday at a meeting of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party that North Korea was preparing for both a dialogue and a confrontation with the United States.

As the state news agency KCNA reports, the North Korean ruler should be ready for a confrontation with the government in Washington.

North Korea must “prepare completely for a confrontation in order to protect the dignity of our state” and thus ensure a “peaceful environment” for the people of North Korea, said Kim Jong-un.

In doing so, the regime in Pyongyang is probably also reacting to an announcement by the US government that it will in future adopt a “practical, graduated approach” towards North Korea in order to come closer to the goal of nuclear disarmament.

Kim Jong-un did not give any details, but stated that he had made a "detailed analysis of the political tendencies of the newly installed US government towards our republic".

US President Joe Biden had stated in May that he was not planning any official meetings with Kim Jong-un unless the focus was on concrete negotiations on nuclear disarmament.

“I wouldn't do what has been done in the recent past.

I wouldn't give him everything he wants - international recognition, ”said the 78-year-old.

North Korea: US President Biden taunts Trump for meeting Kim Jong-un

The comment can be seen as a swipe at Biden's predecessor Donald Trump, who had met three times in person and extremely well in the media with the North Korean ruler during his four-year term in office.

A final summit between the two heads of state ended in Hanoi in 2019 with no results.

Since then, negotiations between the two nations have been on hold.
