Moscow, SANA- Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced the return of the ambassadors of Russia and the United States

Moscow-Sana

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that the return of the ambassadors of Russia and the United States is a "symbolic but very important gesture."

Lavrov said during a joint press conference with his Belarusian counterpart Vladimir Makei today, according to Russia Today website, that the return bears some burdens, given that the presence of ambassadors and not their deputies in capitals always allows for more active talks, bearing in mind that ambassadors enjoy powers from their superiors.

He pointed out that the return of the ambassadors of the two countries to their place of work creates the conditions to start removing the rubble caused by the Americans' seizure in 2016 of Russian diplomatic properties in the United States and their expulsion of some Russian diplomats.

The Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, and the head of the US diplomatic mission in Moscow, John Sullivan, had earlier returned to their countries for consultations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced yesterday, after meeting his American counterpart in Geneva, that Russia and the United States had agreed to return the two ambassadors and to start a bilateral dialogue on the rules of conduct in international affairs. .

With regard to “Belarus”, Lavrov stated that during the meeting between the Russian and US presidents, the issue of Belarus was discussed in the context of respect for the sovereignty of states and adherence to international law.
