According to SPIEGEL information, the Federal Audit Office criticized in its most recent audit report on the procurement of masks by Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) purchasing via the logistics group Fiege.
The company, which resides in a neighboring constituency of Spahn, had not only been commissioned to transport and store masks for the federal government.
Under a framework agreement with an acceptance guarantee from the federal government, it was able to supply the Ministry of Health with 350 million half masks and 700 million surgical masks for around one billion euros.
Obviously far too many, as the Court of Auditors is now complaining: "The agreed maximum quantities in logistics sourcing
(Fiege -
Ed.) Exceeded the needs assessment of 75 million particle-filtering half masks many times over".
In addition, the federal government released Fiege, like other groups, from any warranty.
It was well known that the company did not have "its own expertise in manufacturing or quality testing" of the masks.
According to the Court of Auditors, Fiege itself procured masks in China, but also took over masks from dealers who initially did not get rid of their goods from the federal government.
Fiege then sold the masks on to the Ministry of Health.
In a letter from the ministry to a dealer, it is said that the federal government is definitely interested in the goods, “but on different terms.

The ministry justified the procurement via Fiege and other corporations by saying that they provided established procurement channels and many years of experience.
