The appeal trial of ex-surgeon Joël Le Scouarnec, sentenced in December to 15 years of criminal imprisonment in a first case of rape and sexual assault on minors, will take place from November 15 to 19 before the Assize Court of the Vienna, a judicial source said Friday, June 18.

The appeal trial will be held from November 15 to 19 in Poitiers, subject of course that the accused does not withdraw from his appeal

", explained to AFP Estelle Lafond, secretary general to the first president of the Poitiers Court of Appeal, confirming information from France Info.

In December in Saintes, during a closed-door trial, the Charente-Maritime Assize Court had found the former surgeon and pedophile guilty of sexual assault on one of his nieces and a young patient in the 90s, as well as rapes on another niece, at the same period, and on his neighbor in Jonzac (Charente-Maritime), a 6-year-old girl who had denounced him in 2017. He risked a maximum of twenty years in prison.

Detained at the Saintes remand center, Joël Le Scouarnec is also indicted in Lorient (Morbihan) for acts of rape and sexual assault on 312 potential victims identified in the light of his "

notebooks

", relating sexual abuse over a period of 30 years. It is the complaint of the young girl of Jonzac which had allowed to bring to light this gigantic case of pedophilia guided by the chilling writings of the surgeon found at his home in 2017.
