Thousands participate this morning (Friday) in the Pride Parade in Haifa, which is taking place for the 14th time in the city.

As part of the event, pride flags were hoisted over the City Hall building and along Moriah Avenue, where a march is being held.

In addition, many benches scattered along the axis along which the parade passes were painted with pride, and even the lifeguard booth on the student beach, which has long since become the "Pride Beach," was also painted.

For the first time, the Izzy Shapira Association's Pride and Limitations National Leadership Group participates in the parade.

The group represents people with various disabilities from the gay community.

The marchers were joined by Mayor Einat Klish Rotem, as well as Transportation Minister Meirav Michaeli.

According to the organizers, the Pride Parade in Haifa emphasizes that "despite the differences, between colors, religions, beliefs, cultures, a fan of attraction and love, a whole rainbow of gender identities, of diverse families - we are all connected, intertwined."

The gathering for the parade began at 10:00 on Moriah Boulevard, between the intersection of Tzafririm Street and HaSport Street.

At 11:30 the procession left and passed along the Carmel axis on Moriah Boulevard and President Boulevard to the "Mother Garden", where the main event will take place.

When the marchers arrive at the Mother Garden, there will be performances by Ella Lee Lahav, Ran Danker, DJ Marioma, the drag queen of the WERK line, and the queen of the Haifa line "Drag in the living room".

The event will be accessible to the hard of hearing through translation into sign language.

Following the Pride events, many traffic lanes were blocked for vehicular traffic starting at 9:30 p.m.

The blockade took place on the following arteries: Sderot Moriah from Sefer Square to the corner of Tzafririm and nearby streets, Sderot Moriah from the center of Carmel towards Tzafririm, Shimshon, Yotam, Derech Hayam, Scopus, Sderot Hanasi in the section between Wolfson and the woods and all nearby streets.

With the arrival of the parade in Gan Ham, the axis of Sderot Hanasi between Hahorasha Street and Sha'ar HaLevanon Street will remain blocked.

The roads will be opened to vehicular traffic gradually as the marchers progress.

The Pride event comes against the background of Haifa's upgrade to be the fourth largest city in the country in relation to the LGBT community - according to the Pride Index in the local authorities of the LGBT Association.

The index, published at the beginning of Pride Month, comprehensively examined the relationship of cities and local authorities across the country to the community, and how they supported and promoted its needs in the urban space over the past year. This year, 47 cities and local authorities were measured that promote LGBT work and are accompanied by the association based on dozens of questions in five different categories: welfare, education, infrastructure, public visibility and culture. The project aims to promote a safe space for LGBT people everywhere in Israel.

The Haifa municipality rose by three places compared to last year's ranking. The city ranks first in the areas of welfare and visibility, and also operates the city's Proud Community Center - the community house that provides leisure services, proud culture, community development, exercising rights, support and care and empowerment programs for the proud public and their families in the city. In addition, during the Corona, the municipality operated a dedicated support system for community members, allocating dedicated food distribution budgets for companies and community members in the city.

"We will continue to work to ensure that every man and woman in the gay community and in all communities receives equal equality and treatment."

"We are proud of Haifa's rise in the pride index, but the road to full equality is still long and challenging," Mayor Einat Kalish Rotem said on Tuesday. "We will continue to work to ensure that every man and woman in the gay community in general - and in all communities, receives equal equality and treatment."

She said this at a reception held at the municipality on the occasion of the publication of the "Proud Index", in which she hosted representatives of the proud community, including the director of the Association for the LGBT, Ran Shelby, the association's vice president, Roni Oster and the director of the Arnon Alush community center.

Alush, who thanked the many volunteers working as part of the project, said that "Haifa is an example of how community members can be integrated."

Among other things, he said that eight groups of the proud youth organization "Iggy" currently operate in Haifa with the full support of the municipality.

He also noted that the Haifa Municipality conducts training for education staff on the subject of LGBT youth, and even employs a LGBT person in the educational psychological service and a social worker who is responsible for the LGBT issue in the welfare services and conducts training on LGBT issues for welfare staff.
