Tunnel required: Aßling trembles because of two new tracks to the Brenner

Aßling / District - Two new railroad tracks, and that probably cross-country: No community in the Ebersberg district is as affected by the plans to build the north inlet to the Brennern as Aßling.

Aßling - The construction of the north inlet to the Brennern is a mega project that will change the landscape in the southern district of Ebersberg.

Nevertheless, the population has so far hardly been involved in the topic - while, for example, in the planning section to the south around Ostermünchen the tree is on fire in view of the plans for the railway expansion - and in the Inn Valley anyway.

Now the municipal council is publicly positioning itself, supported by the neighbors from Frauenneuharting and probably also from Emmering, with whom Aßling forms an administrative community: In a joint statement, formulated by the Aßling council member Konrad Eibl (Greens), the three municipalities demand from the Bahn expanded the route from the south to Grafing station in a tunnel.

"In order to keep the encroachment on the landscape and the land consumption as low as possible, a new above-ground route must be avoided at all costs," says the text.

In view of the high costs, a conceivable alternative would be to build the two new tracks directly next to the existing ones in the direction of the Inn Valley.

Criticism from Aßling at the north inlet of the Brenner: "Only negative effects on site"

The local councils of Aßling and Frauenneuharting have nodded their approval, and Emmering should agree next week. The three municipalities share the concern that they will fall by the wayside when the new route is built: "The current planning specifications (...) would only have negative effects on local public transport, people and nature." They fear that the noise protection will not keep pace with the track construction, and local transport will also suffer from the increasing number of long-distance trains.

So far, the plans of Deutsche Bahn indicate that the two tracks that are necessary for the development of the northern approach to the Brenner Base Tunnel should run away from the previous route - the curve radii and the incline of the existing tracks give the maximum continuous speed of the track corridor 230 kilometers per hour not ago. There is speculation behind closed doors about a route that could lead past Aßling to the west, if it doesn’t come as a surprise to the expensive tunnel solution. Concrete route proposals are expected in October at the earliest, but probably by the end of the year.

According to the current status, the line is to be built by 2040. The course for the project is currently being set - and the municipal councils come to the sobering conclusion: "The municipalities have no significant influence on the planning as part of the DB Dialog Forum."
