The new US administration is continuing its charm offensive in Europe.
After US President Biden toured the old continent this week, his Secretary of State Antony Blinken will follow next week.
Berlin (AP) - US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is expected in Berlin next week.
Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel will receive him in the Chancellery on Wednesday, said government spokesman Steffen Seibert on Friday.
"He is taking part in the second Libya conference at the Federal Foreign Office on the same day - at the invitation of Foreign Minister Heiko Maas," said Seibert.
Maas will also meet Blinken for a bilateral discussion on foreign policy issues, said a spokeswoman for the Federal Foreign Office.
On Thursday, the two ministers would sign an agreement on closer cooperation between the USA and Germany at the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe.
Onward journey to Paris and Rome
After his stay in Germany, Blinken will travel to Paris, where he will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron and Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian on June 25, as the Foreign Ministry announced in Washington on Friday.
After his onward journey to Rome, Blinken and his Italian counterpart Luigi Di Maio chair a meeting of the anti-IS coalition.
The situation in Syria will be discussed on the sidelines of the talks.
After bilateral meetings with Di Maio and President Sergio Mattarella, Blinken is expected in the Vatican, where he will meet high-ranking officials of the Papal States.
It should also be about climate change.
At the end of the trip, Blinken will take part in the meeting of foreign ministers of the G20 countries in the southern Italian cities of Bari and Matera.
