The Prime Minister, Engineer Hussein Arnous, discussed today with the Iraqi Minister of Agriculture, Eng. Muhammad Karim Al-Khafaji and his accompanying delegation, ways to activate and strengthen the bilateral cooperation formulas between the two brotherly countries and take the necessary practical steps for further joint coordination in the fields of agricultural and animal production and the establishment of joint companies specialized in agricultural manufacturing and land transport, in addition to taking the necessary practical steps for further joint coordination in the areas of agricultural and animal production. To coordinate with regard to the issue of water security for the two countries in a manner that preserves their rights in accordance with international laws.

The talks also dealt with finding ways to exchange goods and commodities and facilitating their movement to secure the needs of the Syrian and Iraqi markets of various materials and cooperation in the field of scientific research to develop agriculture in the two countries and select suitable crops to confront climate changes and global warming in coordination and cooperation with ACSAD as well as activating mutual visits of specialists to advance cooperation. The duo is forward at all levels.

The Prime Minister affirmed the Syrian government's readiness and desire to expand and develop areas of joint cooperation with brotherly Iraq in various fields, especially intra-regional trade, the exchange of goods, materials and strategic products, land transport and investment, the establishment of joint companies in the field of agricultural production and marketing, both plant and animal, and the exchange of experiences in the fields of agricultural scientific research. To reach self-sufficiency and achieve food security.

Engineer Arnous said: The historical relations and common denominators between the Syrian and Iraqi peoples make it imperative for us to work to invest them in achieving the common interest and to work on translating the memorandum of understanding that was signed between the two ministries of agriculture in the two countries on the ground through concrete measures in the interest of both sides and searching for new horizons for cooperation. And access to a kind of integration between the two economies.

For his part, the Iraqi Minister of Agriculture stressed the need to invest in what links the two countries for the benefit of the two brotherly peoples and to work to expand horizons of cooperation and launch new steps with the aim of achieving food security in the two countries, noting that the understandings with the Syrian side will be translated on the ground through multiple tracks, including facilitating the entry of products The Syrian market needed by the Iraqi market.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Muhammad Hassan Qatna, the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Dr. Qais Khedr, the Director-General of the Arab Center for Studies of Arid Zones and Arid Lands “ACSAD” Dr. Nasr El-Din El-Obeid, and the Chairman of the Agriculture and Water Resources Committee in the People’s Assembly, Muhammad Kardush.
