Claus Lechner delivered a furious race with his motorcycle in the Autodrom Grobnik.
Grünbach / Rijeka - After the success in the Bayern Cup (we reported), Claus “Keke” Lechner had to fight for points again in the “Champions of Grobnik” series - and ended up sixth.
The third run of the series was on the program in the Automotodrom Grobnik, and it turned out to be a very exciting thriller.
Lechner was in very good shape and improved after a few adjustments to the chassis and the gear ratio.
Everything went perfectly in the qualification, and the Grünbacher placed his BMW in 6th place on the grid.
The sun was shining on the day of the race, and at 28 degrees it was an ideal starting point for the race.
“The start was once again to be ticked off,” Lechner looks back grumpily, because he lost ten places up to the first corner. After the first left turn, the Grünbacher wanted to pass the pack on the outside of the curbs, but was then pushed back slightly so that he had to get out into the grass. After the second corner, Lechner was in 20th place, in the middle of the race. "Now the pulse was over 200," says Lechner with a laugh, and he started to catch up. Lap after lap he fought his way past his rivals, so that he was back in 8th place on the penultimate lap. Then came the “Last Lap” board, and Lechner hung in the slipstream of his two men in front. On the back straight he braked one place forward. On the home straight he was able to use the slipstream and finished sixth with an eight-thousandth of a second advantage.
After the heated battle, Lechner said: “It was a great race.” The Grünbacher is now in fourth place in the “Champions of Grobnik” racing series after three races. The last two runs will take place in October. The last two races for the Bayern Cup at the Sachsenring are scheduled for the end of July.
