District administrator Andrea Jochner-Weiß bid farewell to long-time district home administrator Helmut Schmidbauer with very warm words at the most recent district committee meeting.
She thanked the 78-year-old Schongauer for almost 20 years of voluntary work, to which he dedicated himself with great passion.
District - As a former grammar school teacher for German, ethics and social studies, Helmut Schmidbauer was predestined for the office of district home administrator.
Many of his students have found out "what treasure lies in our home," said Jochner-Weiß.
She also praised Schmidbauer for his stance on difficult monument issues: he “did not duck away even with a headwind”.
Regarding the merits of the 78-year-old, the district administrator referred in particular to the Schongau city museum and the pilgrimage museum in the Wieskirche, for which the district home nurse had worked and raved.
As a farewell, she presented him with the golden district medal and a certificate of thanks in the Weilheim town hall.
At least there was a bouquet of flowers for Schmidbauer's wife.
For "that you did without your husband for us for years," said Jochner-Weiß.
Joy over the many kind words
The Schongauer was visibly pleased with the many friendly words.
He was somewhat touched, he didn't expect that at all, well-known Schmidbauer.
As is well known, there had been a stir last year about a controversial article that Schongauer had published in the Lech-Isar-Land-Jahrbuch (we reported).
The 78-year-old noted that he was now the first district home nurse in the district "who did not fill the job to the last breath".
Just like Klaus Gast, who holds office in the Altland district of Weilheim and is dedicated to the areas of history and culture, the Schongauer had followed in the footsteps of a deceased district home administrator.
As reported, Schmidbauer's honorary position had already taken over on May 1st of the year Jürgen Erhard, who now supports the monument protection authority and the state office for monument preservation in the district.
Schmidbauer judges the 37-year-old, who also comes from Schongau, that he is happy that he has got such a good successor.
