Hot, hotter, summer weather in Bavaria: The heat wave in Bavaria continues on weekends.

But soon severe thunderstorms are approaching.

Munich - hot, sunny and humid: With these words, the weekend weather in the Free State can be summarized briefly and compactly.

Already in the morning the thermometers show temperatures well over 20 degrees in many places.

At 27 degrees, the value in Munich scratches the 30-degree mark in the morning.

All in all a foretaste of the coming days.

Weather in Bavaria: After the great heat wave, thunderstorms threaten - storms with hurricane force expected

But the big heat wave has another side effect: Strong thunderstorms are slowly but surely brewing over Bavaria. The German Weather Service is therefore issuing another warning in addition to the heat over the weekend. There is even a threat of hurricane-like storms. A look at the warning card from the DWD shows that on Saturday morning, June 19, the entire state was colored purple. That means: heat warning. Or, to put it in the words of the DWD meteorologists: On Saturday and Sunday, "a strong heat load is expected."

In terms of temperature, the midsummer heat doesn't change much at first.

Once again, the weather experts are announcing maximum values between 29 and 34 degrees.

In addition, a few clouds mix in the afternoon.

Gradually, however, thunderstorm clouds are pulling over Bavaria.

The greatest risk of storms threatens initially in northern Bavaria, between the Bavarian Forest and the Vogtland.

Here the DWD warns of heavy rain, hail and squalls that can reach speeds of up to 85 kilometers per hour.

Due to heavy rain, it should rain around 40 liters per square meter within a short time.

Summer in Bavaria: hurricane gusts and heavy thunderstorms on Sunday

In the night of Sunday the thunderstorm continued, especially in Lower Franconia.

The storm will probably reach its peak on Sunday afternoon: Here, severe thunderstorms threaten from the southwest - with hurricanes of up to 120 kilometers per hour.

But before the rain starts to cool down, it remains relentlessly hot in the Free State - on Sunday with highs between 27 and 33 degrees.
