At about 7pm today (19th), the police received a report stating that a dolphin was stranded in Ting Kau Bay and still survived.

The police then notified the Hong Kong Ocean Park Conservation Fund staff to attend the scene and follow up. They were then taken by the operation team to the Ocean Park for inspection. Unfortunately, the dolphin was certified dead on the way to the Ocean Park.

The Hong Kong Government Life Saving Workers General Union posted on Facebook that the lifeguards found a large fish about 1 meter in length hovering outside the shark prevention net. It ran aground at Ting Kau Bay shortly afterwards. After going forward and investigating, it was discovered that it was A little gray dolphin.

The lifeguard tried many times to put the baby dolphin back into the sea, but it seemed to be lost, rushed and rammed, and ran aground again. Worried that the dolphin would be unable to survive, he called the police for help.

The four lifeguards also worked overtime to stay at the beach, standing in the water in a circle to surround the dolphins, to prevent it from being injured or stranded, waiting for Ocean Park experts to come and deal with it.

In the end, the lifeguard stood in the water for about 2 hours. At about 9 o'clock in the evening, the expert finally arrived at the scene to assist.

The Ocean Park Conservation Fund of Hong Kong stated that it received a report today to follow up a case of a dolphin stranded. This is the 24th case this year. It was a live stranded when it was discovered.

The Conservation Fund immediately joined the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, Ocean Park veterinarians and animal care staff to follow up. However, the stranded dolphins were confirmed dead on the way to the Ocean Park.

The cause of death has not yet been determined.

After preliminary inspection by experts, it is believed that the dolphin is suspected to be a tropical spotted dolphin. The age is yet to be confirmed. The female is about 1.7 meters long. The female is stranded as a "second level-fresh carcass."

The Hong Kong Ocean Park Conservation Fund urges the public to call the 1823 hotline if suspected cases of whales, dolphins, sharks, and fish strandings are found, and provide the time, location, and photos of the strandings, so that the action team can arrive at the scene as soon as possible to follow up.
