Report: US withdraws forces and defense systems from the Middle East
The Wall Street Journal reported on the Biden administration's decision to significantly reduce its presence in the region in order to focus on China and Russia.
The Pentagon will release Patriot batteries from Saudi Arabia and Iraq, which are facing attacks by pro-Iranian forces, on the assumption that the risk of war with Iran is low.

The United States has significantly reduced the number of missile defense systems in the Middle East as part of its policy of over-focusing on threats from China and Russia, the Wall Street Journal reported last night (Friday).
About eight Patriot batteries are being exported from Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait, as is the Thaad Advanced Defense System, deployed in Saudi Arabia, along with hundreds of troops deployed to operate the batteries.
In addition, the United States will export fighter jets and other military equipment from the area.
The accelerated withdrawal from the Middle East accompanies the end of the US presence in Afghanistan after two decades of war, and the priorities of the new administration which sees China as the main threat to America and not the war on terror or Iran.
Washington is advancing negotiations with Tehran on a return to the nuclear deal, so the Pentagon estimates that there is little risk to the war compared to the days of the Trump administration.
