Defense Minister Bnei Gantz announced this evening (Saturday) that he intends to submit to the government in the near future a resolution to establish a state commission of inquiry into the purchase of the submarines and vessels.
This, after staff work that has been in place in his position in recent months, and after coordination with Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, which will take place in the coming days.
Gantz clarified that he expects all government ministers to support the establishment of the committee: "The question marks must not be left open, and horizontal conclusions must be drawn. The criminal proceedings must not be satisfied with the most serious security issue in the history of the State of Israel."
The Ministry of Defense stated that "this committee will have the ability to examine in depth and independently, in contrast to the ministry committee that the defense minister tried to establish, in light of Netanyahu's opposition to a state commission of inquiry."
The Likud said in response: "In recent months, Bnei Gantz has said dozens of times in the media that there is no reason to investigate the recycled submarine affair because even the attorney general 'did not find it appropriate to open an investigation.' "The former testified that there was no flaw in the purchase of the submarines and vessels, Ganz is continuing a blind persecution against Netanyahu and the Likud."

Following the refusal of then-Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to approve the establishment of a state commission of inquiry, last November Gantz announced the establishment of a government commission of inquiry into the submarine affair, which gave him four months to submit the final report.
At the head of the committee, Ganz appointed the retired judge Amnon Strashnov, who previously served as a judge in the Tel Aviv District Court, as chief military attorney and as a military judge.
But even before the committee began its activities, the Knesset dispersed and the 24th Knesset elections were announced, and Gantz decided to suspend efforts to establish it.
