The indoor pool in Weilheim would no longer have to remain closed according to the currently valid Corona rules.

A freshly renovated entrance area is also waiting for visitors.

But it will take a while before the bathroom opens - and there are various reasons for this.

Weilheim -

The indoor swimming pool in Weilheim has been closed since March 2020.

Only in October of last year was the school open for around three weeks.

Swimming pools have actually been allowed to open again for some time - such as the “Rigi-Rutsch'n” in Peißenberg and the “Plantsch” in Schongau (we reported).

The regulations on opening would also apply to the Weilheimer Bad.

But as Florian Steinbach, head of the municipal building and property management of the Weilheim-Schongau district office, says, the bathroom is still closed.

The reason for this is that there is still some work to be done.

After all, the indoor pool is almost 50 years old and time has left its mark.

But there was no inactivity during the closure in 2020, as Steinbach reports.

“We have invested around 500,000 euros.” Among other things, the old diving tower was dismantled piece by piece and a new three-meter tower was built for it.

The changing rooms have also all been refurbished.

The work in the basement of the indoor pool is not visible to visitors.

Concrete renovations were carried out there.

Because the basin stands - Steinbach compares it with "these old bathtubs" - on supports.

The steel girders were already visible on some of these, which is why renovation was urgently needed.

Also new: "We have restructured the entrance area," says Steinbach.

There is also a new checkout area.

He cannot say exactly when the indoor swimming pool in Weilheim will reopen.

“We are still in coordination with the potential users.” In addition to various clubs, this also includes others who offer swimming courses and the like.

The work will continue until the end of the month.

It would then take around two weeks until everything is heated and ready.

"Then the holidays would be approaching," says Steinbach, and it would no longer be worth opening it, because the bathroom is traditionally closed during this time.

If the demand were high in August, Steinbach could imagine opening the bathroom.

“It doesn't look like that at the moment.” That is why the reopening of the Weilheim indoor swimming pool is currently planned for September.
