Thousands demonstrated across Brazil today, denouncing President Jair Bolsonaro's response to the Corona pandemic, his delay in purchasing the vaccine, and questioning the necessity of using masks.

Reuters quoted local media as saying that protests swept across the 26 states and in the capital, Brasilia. Many protesters described the deaths of more than half a million people due to the disease caused by the virus as a kind of “genocide” committed by the Brazilian government against its people, while protesters in Sao Paolo signs read "There are half a million reasons to oust Bolsonaro."

The total number of deaths from the disease in Brazil reached 500,868, while the total number of infections reached 17,883,750.

The Brazilian government is facing severe criticism for wasting previous opportunities to buy vaccines, as the pharmaceutical company Pfizer indicated that it had not received any response to the early offers it made to the Brazilian government to sell vaccines between August and November of last year.
