Today, Brazil crossed the threshold of half a million deaths from the emerging coronavirus.
"500,000 people have died due to the epidemic that is hitting Brazil and the world," Brazilian Health Minister Marcelo Quiroga was quoted by AFP as saying, without specifying the outcome of the last 24 hours.
On Friday, the Brazilian Ministry of Health had counted 498,499 deaths, with a daily rate of more than two thousand deaths during the last seven days.
