Since the beginning of the year until mid-June, the Damascus Countryside Transport Directorate has registered 285,000 vehicles, including 3,864 modern vehicles that are registered for the first time, and more than 109 thousand transactions have been completed, exceeding the amounts collected for the same period, 5 billion pounds.
Director of Damascus Rural Transportation Mahmoud Zaitoun explained to SANA that the number of transactions executed on the central program amounted to 81,285 transactions, and the transactions executed in the directorate, which belong to other governorates, amounted to 28,123 transactions.
At its headquarters in Harasta, according to Zaitoun, the Directorate provides many services, including the registration of a vehicle for the first time, the transfer of ownership of a vehicle registered with the Directorate of Transport, a license renewal transaction, the granting of a driving license instead of an obsolete one, the granting of a temporary and permanent driving license, in addition to the transactions of replacing a vehicle, transferring a vehicle from one department to another, and changing the vehicle category. Stopping a vehicle from driving and treating a record numbering in order to regularize the status and numbering of a record by mail.
Zaitoun revealed that the value of the sums collected since the beginning of the year amounted to 5 billion Syrian pounds, pointing to the completion of the transfer of all files in the directorate's warehouse located in the Maidan area to Harasta and the completion of the complete automation of its files.
The Director of Transport pointed to the formation of a committee in all regions to open temporary records to register motorcycles that are not registered with the transport directorates in order to obtain gasoline and to form committees to inspect works and agricultural vehicles in the regions affiliated with the governorate to reduce the burden of travel to the directorate headquarters on the citizen.
The directorate activated the electronic payment feature to pay a consignment of transactions, which, according to Zaitoun, reduced the processing time and the provision of paperwork. It also opened a center for granting a smart card at its headquarters to serve the eastern Ghouta areas and to give a statement of information and matching agencies free of charge and without consignment fees.
And this year, according to Zaytoun, the directorate implemented a query about a traffic violation by a transport employee by linking it with the traffic branch.
In 2019, the Damascus Countryside Transport Directorate returned to its main headquarters in Harasta, after rehabilitating it from the damage it sustained as a result of terrorism and forcing its cadres to work in a temporary headquarters in Damascus for eight years.
