The Takla Cultural Foundation in Germany is preparing to open a museum of contemporary Syrian art in the German city of Bremen, which will display a permanent collection of artworks by the pioneers of the Syrian plastic movement, in addition to the works of contemporary and young artists.

Shaukat Takla, the Syrian honorary consul in Germany and director of the foundation, explained that this museum will open next October, where, upon its opening, it will display paintings selected from a competition for young Syrian artists, with the names of the winners announced.

On the nature of the competition organized by the Foundation between Takla, when it was announced at the beginning of the year, 81 artists participated in it, from whom the jury selected 7 young artists, indicating that the competition will award the first winner a financial prize of 3,000 euros, with other winners of a financial prize of 1,000 euros each.

The competition came, according to Taqla, because holding separate art exhibitions is no longer sufficient to introduce Syrian art and its intellectual currents. Therefore, it has become necessary to launch a periodic event, provided that the coming years include artists over forty years old.

Regarding the new projects of the Foundation, which was established in 2017 with the aim of introducing the German society to Syrian culture, Takla explained that a book on pioneering and post-pioneering Syrian artists will be published in German, in addition to a series of press interviews with seven contemporary artists conducted by a German journalist.

The expatriate businessman in Germany for more than 52 years indicated that his connection to the homeland is increasing day by day, urging him to work more to serve the Syrian culture and introduce its arts through his cultural and charitable foundation.

In turn, the plastic artist, Dr. Nizar Sabour, coordinator of the competition in Syria, confirmed that the presence of a permanent place for Syrian art in a city in Germany, such as Bremen, is important for introducing the German and European community to Syrian art and artists, indicating that the individual efforts of the Syrian expatriates are the most important and most capable of reaching other societies to convey our true image Our ability to live.

In 2019, the Takla Cultural Foundation held an exhibition of Syrian plastic art at the Parliament House in Bremen, which included works by seven veteran Syrian artists.
