The Civic Party issued a statement: 11 people quit the party and thank everyone for their contributions

The Civic Party issued a statement on the evening of the same day, saying that it had received notices from 11 district councilors requesting to quit the party.

"After the passage of the Public Service (Participation and Appointment) (Miscellaneous Amendments) Ordinance 2021, district councilors are required to take an oath. Together with the rumors reported by individual media recently, party members and former party members who serve as district councillors are under heavy pressure. With our own calculations and considerations, we understand and respect the decision to withdraw from the former party members, and thank them for their contributions to Hong Kong society and our party."

The statement also pointed out that the existing party members, including the five district councillors who still remain in the party, after repeated thoughts and discussions, are convinced that even though the Civic Party has experienced several waves of withdrawal from the party and the number of councillors has dropped sharply, there is still room for work. Democracy, freedom, human rights, and the rule of law are the goals, and we adhere to one country, two systems, and Hong Kong people govern Hong Kong; and we are committed to serving the society and improving people's livelihood.

"We understand that when the parliamentary path is overwhelming, we cannot follow the working model of the past. We recognize that the environment has changed and decided to start anew with the people of Hong Kong, find a way forward, establish a new position, and create new services."

The Citizens Party stated that Hong Kong’s future depends on active civil society and non-governmental organizations. The Citizens’ Party members will actively participate in the affairs of civil society and are committed to assisting the work of non-governmental organizations. It is currently renovating the headquarters office to match the new operating model. The detailed concept will be announced in the future. "The Citizen Party understands that the future will not be a smooth road, but we will continue to work side by side with the people of Hong Kong, working toward our goals, and we are convinced that with mutual support, we will eventually be able to realize our ideals."
