Japan's delay in vaccination is obvious.
As of June 9, just 1.2% of the population was fully vaccinated, placing the country dead last among industrialized countries.
The reasons are numerous and ultimately allow us to better understand this country.
The first reason is that Japan thought, at first, to be spared the virus.
The idea that Japan is different from other countries found confirmation there.
Unconsciously, no doubt, the archipelago believed itself to be safe and the low number of cases in the early days contributed to the inaction of the government and the municipalities.
At the end of May, however, there were 725,000 cases of infection and 12,500 deaths, more than half of which had been recorded since February.

The second reason is financial. Japanese pharmaceutical companies have shown little interest in vaccine research and production, deeming the sector to be unprofitable.
