The children of the Benediktbeurer community kindergarten looked forward to their forest project for weeks - and then strangers stole their handcart with all their necessary utensils on the very first day.

Benediktbeuern - Mayor Anton Ortlieb reported on this theft, which occurred between Monday, June 14th, 2:00 pm, and Tuesday, June 15th, 8:00 am, at the Benediktbeur municipal council meeting on Wednesday. As the head of the kindergarten, Lydia Baur, reported after the meeting, the children and their educators had parked the foldable handcart on Monday at around 2 p.m. in the forest near the railway underpass in the Benediktbeurer industrial area in the direction of Kochel. “We have been doing this for many years,” emphasized Baur.

When the group returned to the square on Tuesday morning around 8 a.m., the red and black car, which was covered with a green tarpaulin, had disappeared. Baur is appalled that someone steals a handcart with children's items. For many years, she says, her kindergarten has been organizing the 14-day forest project. Always park the handcart with the necessary utensils such as changing clothes, identification books or first aid equipment in the forest. Because the way to the project site is quite long for the children. So it's just practical not to have to pull the car with you every day. Nothing has ever happened before.

Mayor Ortlieb appealed to the thieves at the municipal council meeting to bring the car and its contents back.

"That shouldn't happen," he said.

Baur emphasized that the handcart was missing from their facility, because “we don't have a replacement”.

She also asks to be returned.

Baur hopes that the unknown perpetrators will show remorse and either bring their prey back to the place from which they stole it or leave it right in front of the kindergarten.
