New tree houses in the Neuried Forest: The protest by Munich climate activists against possible clearing in Forst Kasten has reached a new level.

The police are - so far - only watching.

Climate activists built two new tree houses in the Neuried Forest at the weekend.

The police were on site with a helicopter, but initially did not intervene.

The police had only recently cleared the first tree plateau there.

But the activists want to continue to protest against clearing.

According to legend, King Sisyphus was doomed to roll a boulder up a mountain forever, which - almost at the summit - rolls back down into the valley every time.

A similar fate now threatens the tree occupiers in Forst Kasten after they built tree houses again at the weekend.

You won't stay long.

The first tree occupation ten days ago was disbanded and the plateau was removed by the police *.

Nevertheless, the activists want to continue to offer resistance at lofty heights, because “the alternative is to sit at home.

And then the forest is cleared, ”explains Ingo Blechschmidt (32).

The math lecturer from Augsburg was there when the tree was first occupied.

Forst Kasten: Activists announce that they will stay until the start of possible clearings

Background: The Forst Kasten is owned by the city as a foundation forest.

A month ago the social welfare committee decided to give a second company the contract to mine gravel - there is already a first gravel pit.

For the next project, around 9.5 hectares of forest would have to be cleared.

Since then there have been continuous protests in the forest.

The activists have announced that they will stay until the possible start of the clearing in one to two years.

This time, starting on Saturday night, the forest conservationists built two tree houses.

One of them is in the same place as the first, but twice as high at 14 meters.

Four people wait on the platform and in the hammocks below.

A second platform hangs 250 meters further, three to four meters high in the trees.

Up to ten activists stayed on Sunday at noon.

More climate protection activists have gathered on the ground floor and at a nearby vigil that has existed for some time.

Forst Kasten: So far, the police have kept a low profile during protests

City councilor Marie Burneleit (41) also came by - "to support", as she says.

Last week, her group, Die Linke / The Party, put an urgent motion for the Social Committee on June 24th.

Accordingly, the city should not sign any contracts until all legal issues have been clarified.

Service inspection complaints and at least one lawsuit are currently pending (we reported).

On Sunday the situation in the forest was relaxed.

The police keep a low profile.

"We still clarify with the district office how we should proceed," said a spokesman.

The day before, a helicopter circled over the scene in the evening hours, and the police brought seven people to the Planegger inspection to determine their identity.

“The helicopter came so close to us that I once had eye contact with the pilot,” says one of the tree occupiers (29), who calls himself a mosquito.

For the activists, one thing is certain: the aerial battle in the Forst Kasten is far from over.
