Regional and departmental elections, first round: participation at 5 p.m. stood at 26.72%

Nearly 48 million voters are called to the polls, for a ballot that usually mobilizes relatively little.

Is it Father's Day, the good weather, the easing of restrictions that put wings in the shoes?

The participation in the first round of the regional and departmental elections amounts to 26.72% this Sunday at 5 p.m.

This is worse than the 43.01%% observed at the same time on December 6, 2015 for the previous regional ones, and 42.98% in March 2015 for the departmental ones.

At noon, this sharp drop was already being felt: 12.22% participation nationwide.

This is worse than the 16.27% observed in the first round of regional 2015 and 18.02% in the first round of departmental nine months earlier.

The abstention record, at 53.67%, for a first round of the regionals dates from 2010, when the midday turnout was 16.07%.

This record therefore has a good chance of being broken during this last electoral meeting before the presidential election 300 days.
