Less than a year from the presidential election, the region led by Xavier Bertrand, already a candidate for the Elysee Palace, is highly regarded.

170 seats are to be allocated after two rounds of regional elections in Hauts-de-France, a region of 6 million inhabitants.

Former UMP minister under Dominique de Villepin and François Fillon, Xavier Bertrand has been its president since 2015. Already a presidential candidate, he led a double campaign on the ground.

Faced with him, the majority sent no less than five ministers, including the Minister of Justice Eric Dupond-Moretti, that is to say the stake.

But it was the FN candidate Sébastien Chenu who was behind Bertrand in the polls.

As for the left, it united in the region to try to play its part in this election.

On the evening of the first round, December 6, 2015, Marine Le Pen, head of the National Front list, came first with 40.64% of the votes cast.

Xavier Bertrand, UMP candidate, was far behind with 24.97% of the vote.

As for the lists of the socialist Pierre de Saintignon and the communist Fabien Roussel, they had respectively received 18.12% and 5.32% of the memberships.

What could have led to a quadrangular had turned into a duel after the withdrawal of the two left lists to block the FN.

On December 13, Xavier Bertrand was declared the winner, credited with 57.77% of the vote.

The lists :

  • Xavier Bertrand (DVD) - outgoing

  • Eric Pecqueur (LO)

  • Karima Delli (EELV - union of the left)

  • Laurent Pietraszewski (LREM)

  • Sébastien Chenu (RN)

  • José Evrard (EXD)

  • Audric Alexandre (Div)
