Six years after his historic victory on the island, the outgoing president of the Territorial Collectivity is ahead of his number one rival, the mayor (formerly Les Républicains) of Ajaccio, Laurent Marcangeli.
He leads the first round with 29.2% of the vote, according to the final results, ahead of the candidate of the United Right (24.9%), against a backdrop of significant participation (57.1%, a national record ).
"Corsica has just said very clearly that it wants to continue on the path to emancipation,"

Gilles Simeoni's first ally since 2015, the outgoing president (independentist) of the Corsican Assembly, Jean-Guy Talamoni, suffers from his isolated candidacy: he was eliminated in the first round with 6.9% of the vote, narrowly missing the 7% mark required to qualify - a threshold specific to Corsica.
