If the basis of journalistic work is the need to mediate reality to the public, Yair Kraus from Makor Rishon is one of the most important journalists of recent times.

Just a few weeks after the riots of Israeli Arabs - when MKs from the joint list try to portray the Arabs as a victim of the events, and when some media outlets talk about "victims on both sides" - it is almost unnecessary to explain how important it is to return to facts, reality and field records.

Kraus, who lives in Acre, has since the beginning of the events become a one-man news agency, and the most important source of information in everything related to Arab violence in the city and its surroundings.

His Twitter page lingers on stories that most of the media have flipped through at best, or ignored altogether at worst.

It often contains reports of antisemitic incidents, which without Krauss no one would have known took place.

What else?

There are media people for whom the story Krauss tells does not fit in with the narrative they are working to produce.

It bothers them to tell about coexistence.

It bothers them to tell of only a small amount of Arabs who have resorted to violence.

He interrupts them in telling about moderate Arab MKs trying to calm the spirits.

Last week the tension between their political positions and Krauss' reports reached an explosion.

It happened after the father of Mount Even, who was mortally wounded when Arabs burned the Effendi Hotel where he was staying, died of his wounds.

MK Aida Toma Suleiman, a resident of Acre, tweeted: "The death of Avi Har Ibn is shocking and heartbreaking.

I was especially saddened to hear about him, because while the hotel where he was staying was on fire, I, along with many Arab residents of Acre, made efforts on the ground to get him out of the burning hotel. "

Krauss, who wandered those nights in the Old City of Acre and was the first to tell the story of a mountain of stone, read and exploded. "Let us unravel this lie before there are those who claim that MK Toma Suleiman deserves the Israel Security Award," he wrote in response.

It was too much for some journalists from the left wing. Whoever read some of them, and forgot how the MK from the joint blood libel against forces The security could have been convinced by the efforts of those journalists, that this is a Righteous Among the Nations, and that it might be good that the hotel burned down just so that we would have the opportunity to see Thomas Suleiman work for peace and save Jews.

"I have not seen such evil, racism and incitement in a long time," wrote Anat Saragusti, director of the press freedom at the journalists' organization, about Krauss and other journalists who shared his remarks.

"Every Twitter feed has risen to its feet to prove that MK Aida Toma is a liar.

Thomas expressed grief over the death of the father of Mount Even as a result of the arson of the Effendi Hotel in Acre, and told how she was there that evening and helped evacuate him.

No.

They could not stand it, racists, arrogant and arrogant. "

Violent routine

"Saragusti and her friends hugged Thomas Suleiman because she's one of their own, and I'm not," Krauss says. "So she will say about me that I am bad and racist and arrogant. Look what energies they put out to contradict what I wrote, the main thing is that the Arabs will not come out bad from this incident. I hurt their soul bird, in everything they tell themselves."

"There is a perception of 'we are the oppressors and they are the oppressed.' They were devastated. "

Earlier this week I joined Krauss for a tour of the Old City of Acre. To the Effendi Hotel which burned down with a stone mountain inside. To the "Uri Buri" restaurant, from which nothing is left. To dozens of Jewish-owned galleries and B & Bs, which were set on fire. Here and there, on the walls of Arab businesses, there are posters in support of those arrested after the riots.

A few hundred meters away, the Arab mob brutally lynched Mor Janashvili, Mordechai Katz and Elad Barzilai and seriously injured them. More than 60 Jewish businesses and properties were burned and looted on those three nights last month. The Arab rioters moved from store to store, gallery to gallery, from B&B To a B&B, and from a ship to a ship in the old port, a video of a Jewish landlord - and set on fire.

Some of the events of the last few weeks, I ask him, we would not have known if you had not told about them. "Take for example the father of Mount Stone," he replies. "Until I told his story, no one talked about it. Nobody knew he was burned and that he was in a human condition. Nothing. Silence. I think the average Israeli citizen who needs communication does not know how terrible what happened in Acre. Except for Mount Eben, there were three Jews here. Who were lynched and seriously injured. "

"But there were many other incidents. I'm not even talking about the disturbances that were in the first three nights. I'm talking about what you can call a routine. Two Arabs on a bicycle stopped a 9-year-old Jewish boy a few days ago, punched him in the stomach, knocked him down. "On the floor, and they ran away. It seems to me an event worth knowing about."

"Last Saturday, a car with an Arab Shabab stopped next to a 10-year-old Jewish boy who had left the house, and the passengers took out a knife and threatened to kill him. Just like that. Routine. "They threw stones at him and fled to a mosque. On Sunday this week, Arab minors threw stones at children in the Talmud Torah playground in the city center."

"This is the daily routine of the last few weeks. There is nothing to talk about small incidents such as provocations and abuse, along with the breaking of Israeli flags on the vehicles of Jewish residents."

Kraus pulls out the phone and shows the calls for help sent to him by Jewish business owners he knows in the city on the first evenings of the riots. "Take, for example, Meir Davidson, the owner of Acutica, a hotel whose rooms are scattered in the Old City. That evening his street was full of Arabs In everything Jewish. He had 29 guests besieged in their rooms. Going out, all around blood and fire and plumes of smoke, was life threatening. Arabs knocked on their doors. They wanted to burn them. He sent me frightened messages, after he tried to get help from the police. "To rescue his guests, he failed. The police themselves were afraid to enter the area. They told him to tell the guests to lock themselves in the rooms."

"I called the police spokeswoman several times. I told her 'people there will be killed. You have to act, fast.' It was after the Effendi was set on fire. It's not far away. "All his B & Bs were set on fire. If they had not taken the people out, they would have burned them alive. The Arabs there looted everything, including Davidson's private home."

"Not far away, in a youth hostel of the Knights' Halls, hundreds of people were evacuated after throwing Molotov cocktails at the place. A little later I found myself in mortal danger when I was in the center of the old town. I was delayed there because the owner of one of the galleries, Judaica, called me. "He was walking around the area. He was out of the old city, and the police did not let him in. He cried for me in tears. He begged me to enter his gallery from the window, and push the closet to block the door. That they could not enter."

"When I arrived, there was his maid, the Arab. She was standing outside trying to save. She was afraid of herself, she wanted to go. Suddenly we heard whistles, and I see a lot of Arabs coming to us. She ran to them and said 'he is with me, he is with me.' I ran away. "The next day rioters came again and looted the entire gallery. They did not even leave him the films of the cash register. Everything went."

"Like this, three days, every evening, they rioted here on Jewish property. But of course not only on property. There was Elad Barzilai, my friend, an educator, a father of children, who blew up his skull with two rocks. Not far from him was another friend, Mordechai c. "Z, a sweet man, who was attacked by Arabs and hit with rocks in the head and sticks and with batons and iron chains, and made the most brutal lynching there is.

" "And all this in parallel with Moore Janashvili, who also lynched two blocks away.

He went to save his mother, who lived in a housing estate in Wolfson, and got into a mass demonstration.

"He accidentally hit one of the Arab demonstrators, and then they took him out, burned his car, beat him, broke his bones and he was taken to the hospital in a very serious condition."

Identification with Al-Aqsa

Krauss goes through a series of recent indictments against some of those responsible for the violence. "It's amazing. These are stories I'm sure you have not heard of at all. Take a look at my Twitter, and tell me how many of these events you remember in real time. A lynching in a resident of Mitzpe Aviv who accidentally entered Tamra. A lynching committed by Kafr residents on parents and their daughter, smashing car windows, "They grabbed the daughter's hair by the head, and tried to drag her out to them. And another lynching in the village of Cana. And another and another. There were attempted murders of Jews at every intersection."

"There were lynching incidents here in the north, which because they did not end in death are not talked about. The difference between the effendi event and an event that is not told at all in the media, is the father of one 84-year-old Har Ibn - who instead of lying in hospital for two years, died. "It was not an incident. After all, in every such attack they came with the aim of murdering. If Moore and Mordechai and Elad had died, and it was not far off, we would have counted only four murdered in Acre. They simply survived."

Later we come across a poster calling for the detainees to be released from interference.

"Acre will not forget its sons in the prisons of the occupation," the poster read.

Krauss explains that "the Palestinian narrative has won here. There are workshops on creating Palestinian flags. It has not been here before. Until a month ago, you would not see Palestinian flags here on municipal basketball courts or in large demonstrations by city residents."

"I published how dozens of Arab children march in the city wearing make-up in the colors of the Palestinian flag. This is new. Arab Acre is undergoing a process of Palestinianization. We in the media talk about them as weak, deprived and poor, but if you ask them why they did what they did to Jews, they will tell you a different story. "They will tell you that they did it in solidarity with al-Aqsa. That is the background to these pogroms."

Do not let a lie succeed

"One day," Krauss continues, "I hear in the IDF waves a senior approach that raises the possibility that perhaps anyone who is to blame for everything that happened here is the Torah nuclei. And I can not believe I hear it. Hello, the Torah nucleus here is me. This is my friends. I had a really hard time hearing that. I feel like I'm standing in front, Arabs in front are trying to throw stones at me and murder me, and in the back journalists who are my friends stab me in the back and tell me I'm guilty.

"" I feel like someone holding the post here, in a sense of responsibility. That if I do not tell what is happening here, and I will rewrite reality and engineer the factual story, it will be a catastrophe. If I let the media tell me that those who rioted here are impoverished poor, and I will not say that these are also students who receive scholarships and high school students 5 extended physics units some of whom at 18 will go to be doctors, this event will meet us in the next round in a much worse situation. It will be a real war for our lives here. "

So what happened now?

I ask him.

Where do you think all this attack on you came from?

"I think I sat down with some journalists on the racist box that interferes with the narrative with the facts it brings. I saw earlier the attempts made to tell grandma's stories here. Earlier they claimed the rioters were not local at all, and that's nonsense. Go see who's arrested, everyone here. Go see what support. "These detainees are here. The Arabs here claim they are innocent, and ignore the acts of which they are suspected. They accuse the police of being the one who caused the riots, back them up. Their pictures hang here on shops in the city."

"Then came the old claim that they were poor, and that in general there was only a small minority within which there were many Righteous Among the Nations who helped the Jews. True, there were here and at other violent points some angels who saved Jews and prevented their deaths, but from here to turn the story on its head. When Thomas Suleiman wrote that when she was at the Effendi Hotel, she and other Arabs helped save the local Jews, I knew it was a lie. I live here, I hang out here, and I know what was here. All the riots and all the violence came out of the demonstration she was in the first evening "And suddenly the lady came a month later and remembered the book, 'I was there and I helped.'

Say, I ask Krauss, why does it matter where she stood? And suppose she really was in the hotel area, and suppose there were three more good evenings there that helped? After all, the problem is not with these three, that if they were, there or elsewhere, they really deserve applause. The problem is that there was an all-out violent anti-Semitic Arab riot here, in which hundreds or thousands of Arabs rioted and looted and tried to murder. After all, if they had not tried to murder Jews, we would not have needed those three righteous people.

"It's true," Krauss replies, "but it's important to me not to let the liars win. From the demonstration that Aida Toma Suleiman was in, all the rioters went to the pogroms. And as for the media, I will continue to fight so that everyone knows who took part in the riots. As normative, and one day they turned around and signaled to the attackers 'Here lives a Jew, and here lives a Jew'. It is important for me to know that things did not return to normal. That the city underwent a frightening extremist process in a short time. There was no correction, no apology, no recognition. In sin, and there was no attempt by the Arabs to say, "We are guilty, we did something wrong."

"The narrative that the media and the authorities are trying to build is that it is necessary and possible to calm the spirits. They are trying to open a new page, put on a band-aid, ash with a lot of make-up and erase everything that was. And I say it will kill us. The Arabs here in the masses. A Jew is a nomad. Permission was given to the corrupt to corrupt. They understood that there is no justice and no justice. They can riot night after night, kill Jews, and not run into the police. They got power from it, and next time they will kill us and slaughter us. That, so as not to let the lie succeed, is what I will continue to do. "
