The building committee of the city council wants to decide tomorrow how the parking space management at the Lido should look like. The building committee of the city council wants to decide tomorrow how the parking space management at the Lido should look like.

A few details have already leaked: The parking machines that have been decided will probably not be installed until 2022.

Until then, tickets have to be bought by mobile phone.

The number of parking spaces for cyclists will be increased significantly.

Schongau - In bright sunshine and high summer temperatures, the parking spaces above the Schongau beach on the Lido were recently filled up again.

The two areas to the left and right of the street were occupied quickly, as always, and many cars were parked on the lane.

As is well known, this is a thorn in the side of the city because it sometimes leads to chaotic scenes.

The declared goal is more road safety.

What will happen to the parallel parkers?

In May, the building committee decided to set up machines at both parking lots.

As the operator of the “Bootshaus” restaurant on the Lido, Günter Schultz, learned from those responsible, the question now also revolves around whether and how the vehicles will be allowed to park along the street in the future.

Schultz and his closest colleague Sebastian Heiser warn that too many parking spaces will be lost if parking on the street is generally prohibited.

However, the city sees a need for action: "Really dangerous situations have already been observed," explained Martin Blockhaus from the city building authority at the previous meeting.

The operators of the boathouse, on the other hand, fear that it will become even more dangerous when the parked cars disappear completely from the street.

Then they would drive faster and pedestrians would be at risk.

Meanwhile, a compromise proposal is on the table, which Schultz and Heiser welcome: parallel parking should continue to be allowed on marked areas, but areas are left out in order to create alternative options.

The emergency services then have an easier time getting through.

Parking should only be chargeable between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Schultz and Heiser are also satisfied with the suggestion that parking fees should only be charged between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

"Then our evening guests will not be deterred." They are not quite as happy, however, that the parking machines will not be installed until 2022.

The innkeepers have learned that the city would initially like to try “cell phone parking” for a while.

Those who are not so tech-savvy as to load the parking ticket onto their mobile phone should also be able to buy it, according to the boathouse boss.

The day tickets should be available in the boathouse and at the tourist information.

Three bike racks are to be installed

The monitoring of the managed parking space at the Lido will be in the hands of the city, explains Stefan Müller from the police station in Schongau.

The police have no access to the cell phone tickets.

The inspection officer responsible for traffic issues has already been informed by the city about the planning at the Lido.

He welcomes them in principle.

Above all, he is pleased with the basic idea of giving people incentives to switch to bicycles, says Müller.

As you can see, three bike racks are now to be installed: One above the path to the Lido, one below and a third near the toilet facility.

The street is obviously too narrow for the city bus

On the other hand, there will be no “royal solution”, according to boathouse boss Schultz.

As reported, at the previous building committee meeting, Bettina Buresch (Greens) asked not only to jump on the Lechfloss shuttle bus when transporting people to the Lido, but also to send the city bus on the journey.

“Lido, ice rink, and splash should be a loop,” she said.

Those responsible for the boathouse were also able to imagine a summer timetable very well, according to which the city bus also drives to “Köhlerstadel, Lido and Volksfestplatz”.

The problem: The mayor drove the route with the bus operator, Schultz learned.

The sad result: he doesn't drive the route "because it's too narrow."

Booth house operator wants an electric barrier

The 58-year-old landlord, who has leased the boathouse since 1996, is now very excited about what the building committee will decide in its meeting tomorrow.

Schultz hopes that another wish will come up that is at the top of his list: an electronic barrier that can be operated by transponder on the way to the Lido, which is also used to supply the restaurant.

"It would save us a lot of stress," said Schultz.

The meeting starts at 5 p.m. in the Ballenhaus.
