The Food Safety Center stated that it had notified the stallholders of the aforementioned violations and ordered them to stop selling the relevant products; the center is also tracing the source and distribution of the relevant products.

The Centre for Food Safety said that through the food monitoring programme, samples of clams were taken from No. 20-21 Yeung Uk Road Market in Tsuen Wan for testing. The results showed that the samples contained 0.6 micrograms of chloramphenicol per kilogram.

According to the "Hazardous Substances in Food Regulation" (Chapter 132AF), fish (including shellfish aquatic animals) sold in Hong Kong for human consumption must not contain chloramphenicol. Once convicted, offenders are liable to a fine of 50,000 yuan and imprisonment for six Months.

The CFS emphasized that it will continue to follow up the incident and take appropriate actions, while the investigation continues.
