Maria Theresa Sanchez Torres from TSV Eintracht Karlsfeld was nominated for the German national team in synchronized swimming.

Karlsfeld

- It looks so easy-going.

And smile too, smile at the same time.

The audience enjoys the perfect, synchronous interplay of the swimmers.

But it's hard work for them.

In their four-minute freestyle, they are under water for around half the time and achieve top performance when there is a lack of oxygen.

And yet many girls and young women are enthusiastic about this sport: "It is a very special feeling, you have to give it your all at the moment," says Maria Theresa Sanchez Torres.

Maria Theresa Sanchez Torres is now part of the German national team in synchronized swimming

She gave so much for years that she is now part of the German national synchronized swimming team.

She trains at TSV Eintracht Karlsfeld, lives in Erdweg and will be 17 at the end of June.

From June 30th to July 5th, the Junior European Championships in synchronized swimming will take place in Valetta, Malta.

It is still uncertain whether Maria Theresa Sanchez Torres will be able to participate: It depends on when the current theses will take place in the school.

Maria Theresa is in the 10th grade at the Scheibner Business School in Dachau.

She was unable to take part in the penultimate preparatory course, but she could last weekend in Nuremberg.

"It is difficult to arrange this intensive training with the school six times a week." There are also international competitions: "I was gone a long time."

A synchronized swimmer, it is said, must have similar skills to a floor gymnast, a competitive swimmer, a figure skater, a water polo player and a dancer, and all of this without solid ground underfoot.

In addition, there is the perfect interaction with the others and the music, just the synchronous.

With pleasure and ease in the water - despite initial difficulties

Maria Theresa Sanchez Torres has enjoyed swimming in the water since she learned to swim from her father when she was seven.

Her mother, a Mexican, also supported her.

“I loved swimming so much.

That was a direct hit.

It's like flying, it feels so easy. "

The entry into "Artistic Swimming", as this sport is also called, was not that easy for her.

“I've been very bad for a long time,” she says.

"But I always had fun with it."

Maria Theresa Sanchez Torres is characterized by enthusiasm and talent

And she also enjoyed the hard training: stamina, flexibility, endurance, strength.

“You are in control of yourself.” So she has become more and more successful.

Very modestly, she says of herself: “That was a coincidence.” Or: “I only came into the group as a replacement.” Her trainer at TSV, Gabi Kornbichler, who herself was one of the top in this sport, says: “ Theresa distinguishes her enthusiasm and her talent.

You don't get into the national team by chance. "

The synchronized swimming department has existed at TSV Eintracht Karlsfeld since 1974.

The "Synchros" have become known nationally and internationally for decades, they can even be found in Wikipedia.

The many newspaper clippings in the box at the entrance to the indoor pool also tell about it - if you can go back inside.

For the training of the top athlete, the closure of the indoor swimming pool meant long trips to Munich to the swimming federation's bases, which can be used.

So there is no time for hobbies other than this big one anyway.

Except: "I really like to sleep." That is understandable.
