An Indian man who arrived in Hong Kong from Dubai was diagnosed with a variant of the new crown pneumonia virus when he was about to leave Hong Kong. He later allegedly lied to the Health Protection Center that he did not participate in any gatherings during his stay in Hong Kong and was a Filipino who lived with him His girlfriend even denied acquaintance with an Indian man.

However, the woman’s credit card showed that she had spent money in Discovery Bay, and revealed that the two had traveled to many places and infected 11 close contacts during a party.

The two pleaded guilty to seven counts of providing false information to authorized personnel in the Kowloon City Court today (21st). The Indian male claimed that he did not want his family to be questioned; the female defendant regretted it and apologized to the public.

The prosecution referred to the male defendant as "patient zero".

The case will be sentenced on July 5, during which the court will ask for background reports on the two.

The male and female defendants are in a relationship

The two defendants: the man Syed Hohamed Rizvi (30 years old, Dubai engineer) and the woman Guadiz Victoria Marie Alcadie (31 years old, nurse), they are a couple.

The prosecution revealed that the male defendant was "patient zero" and infected 11 people at a gathering in Xinghua Village, Chaiwan.

The defense pleaded that the male defendant concealed his whereabouts because he did not want his family to be questioned by the Department of Health; the female defendant said he regretted and apologized to the public.

Male defendant was diagnosed with pneumonia virus before leaving Hong Kong

According to the case, the male defendant arrived in Hong Kong via Dubai on March 19 this year and went to live in the female defendant’s Jordan unit after completing the quarantine.

Since the male defendant planned to leave Hong Kong later, he was tested for the virus, but the result was positive, and the female defendant was also found to be infected later.

The male defendant once said that he had forgotten several days of itinerary

Later, a nurse from the Department of Health called the male defendant to inquire about his whereabouts, but the male defendant said that he had forgotten his itinerary between April 10 and 12, but claimed that he was staying in Jordan and Tsim Sha Tsui, and did not visit any restaurants, nor did he contact him. Other people contact or participate in the party.

The female defendant has denied knowing the male defendant

When the female defendant received a call from the nurse, she initially denied knowing the male defendant, and later admitted that she had traveled to Cheung Chau with the male defendant. After learning that the other party had been infected with the mutant virus, she changed her statement that she did not know the male defendant and immediately hung up the phone.

Immigration officers later called the male defendant again. He claimed that he stayed at the female defendant’s home on April 10 and did not go out. He had gone shopping at the supermarket near the female defendant’s home the next day and bought cakes in Tsim Sha Tsui, also known as April 13. Did not participate in the party on Sunday.

Checking the credit card records found that he had been to Discovery Bay

After investigating the credit card records of the female defendant, officers of the Immigration Department discovered that she had eaten in Discovery Bay.

When Immigration officers made further enquiries with the male defendant, he confessed that he had been to Citygate, Novotel Citygate Tung Chung, Tong Fuk Village, and Discovery Bay.

Participants are family members do not think it is a gathering

The male defendant pointed out under caution that he had not disclosed that he had been to Tung Chung at first because he did not know whether the other party was really a nurse. He also explained that he could not confirm the identity of the caller because too many people called him.

He does not think that the visit to Xinghua Village is a gathering because the participants are all family members.
