For the second time, the market town of Peißenberg participates in city cycling.
To kick off, around 50 city cyclists drove from Peißenberg to Oderding on Saturday morning.

- The starting shot for “City Cycling 2021” in Peißenberg has been fired: On Saturday morning, led by Mayor Frank Zellner, a field of around 50 cyclists set off from Rathausplatz for the official prologue loop to Oderding. For Peißenberg it is the second participation after 2020 in the nationwide cycling and climate protection campaign initiated by the Climate Alliance. This year there are a total of 30 teams with 241 active cyclists who have registered via the event platform (www.stadtradeln.de/peissenberg). That is significantly more than, for example, in Schongau (122) and Peiting (117), as Frank Zellner proudly remarked. Only in Weilheim and Penzberg are more participants at the start: “But we will catch up with them next year too,” announced the town hall chief with a smile.
For the prologue, representatives of the market council, the ecumenical welfare station, the “Bergziegen”, “DeFendter” and the “Senior Afternoon” team mingled in the peloton. Even the self-proclaimed clergy got on their bikes: “I drive for the episcopal ordinariate - as Pope”, stated Stefan Rießenberger quite immodestly. Background: The market council and TSV president was dubbed the “hygiene pope” in a newspaper interview regarding the Corona regulations for sports clubs. In terms of cycling, everything was represented at the prologue - from the expensive carbon racing machine to the mountain bike to the everyday bike from market councilor Matthias Bichlmayr, on which a fruit box was stuck on the luggage rack. City council colleague Rudi Mach came with his e-bike and many kilometers of training in the legs:“I've already cycled 1500 kilometers this year. You have to make an effort, not that I leave you behind, ”was the bold message.
At least with Franz Engel, “hanging out” might not have worked. The semi-professional endurance athlete is starting this year with his wife and daughter in the “Gruppetto” team. The term - it comes from cycling and describes a group of cyclists who gather in the back of the field on mountain stages - is of course quite misleading for the Engels. Four hours after the starting signal for city cycling, the family of three was already in the lead with 164 kilometers in front of the town hall team (125).
